My favorite newspaper front page is the Hi.Life newsmagazine because it had an interesting picture on the front and how it was a newsmagazine instead of the common newspaper.Which paper immediately grabbed your interest? Why?
"The Liberator" from LBJ High School immediately grabbed my interest because the pictures on the front looked interesting and the stories made me want to read them. What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?
My favorite headline from that headline is "By the Book" because it had a picture of The Bible and then biology books underneath it and it made me want to read it.How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?
There are two stories on the front page of my favorite. What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.
A lot of the newspaper front pages have a similar layout and picture placement and story text to them. What are things that vary (or are different) on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.
Some of the designs in the front pages of the newspapers a different and have a different layout than the other ones and have more or less photos. Were these similar to what you saw last class when you looked at daily newspapers from around the world?
Yes a lot of these newspapers are similar to the daily newspapers around the world, but these pertain more to high school students and school wide information rather than world-wide information.

There are 4 stories on the front page of my favorite newspaper front page. What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.

CE #4.4

1. How much more money could it cost Travis County drivers to register their car next year? Page A1 "Twin bills would pay..."
It will be an increase of $20
2. How much does a cubic foot of snow weigh? How much does a cubic foot of ice weigh? Why is this important? Page A2 "New England roofs fail..."
One cubic foot of snow weighs 8 pounds and a cubic foot of ice weighs 64 pounds. This is important because if the snow that is on those people's roofs becomes ice it could cause major problems with collapsing houses under the weight of the snow and ice and is extremely dangerous.
3. What is the political cartoon by Dana Summers on page A11 trying to say, in your opinion?I think the political cartoon is trying to say that it would not be smart for us to put troops to fight Isis because that is exactly what they want and they are just looking to kill our soldiers and can do it easily.
4. What are some of the objects that Maureen Gilman added to her garden to give it more of a "family" feel? Page SA3 "Artifacts added to..."
She added artifacts from her family's history to give her garden a more family feel.
5.  What was the primary mode of advertising for music clubs in Austin's past AND which of the 8 pictured was your favorite? Page D1 (Austin 360) "Homegrown"
The primary moe of advertising for music clubs in Austin's past is that they created posters and posted them around town to get people to know about their band or club. My favorite is the first one on the top left because it is really colorful and has a cool font.
Short Answer:

The lead story in the Statesman today is about same-sex marriage. Please read the first part of the story on Page 1, if you want to read the entire story please do, but you don't need it to answer the question below.

What do you think about same-sex marriage? Should it be legal? Should a man be able to marry another man, or a woman to marry another woman? WHY or WHY NOT?

I don't believe in same sex marriage because we were created to be together, man and woman and even if some people have those feelings, I don't think it is right or ethical. I don't think it should be legal because even though it is their lives and their choices, it is not how we were created to be and the only natural way to be together is man and woman. I think that there are genetic things that are components and people are born with these feelings, but it is a lifestyle choice and they chose that way of life for themselves.

Africa and Abandoned Theme Parks

I think that the fact that people hunt these animals is horrible and that their natural beauty should be preserved. These animals don't deserve to be poached and hunted for, they should be able to live peacefully in their natural habitats. Nick Brandt tries to capture their beauty and the simplicity of the life that the animals live. He is fascinated by the landscape and animals in East Africa.
This picture is my favorite because the lion is by itself and is so different than the pictures of a pack of lions or two of them. It gives of a different vibe than a lot of the other pictures because the lion's back is turned to the camera and there isn't anything else in the background, so the subject is clear.

This picture shows rule of thirds because the lion, who is the subject, is off to the right of the picture creating the idea that the lion is admiring the beauty of the land.

Nick Brandt uses a Pentax 6711 with only two fixed lenses and he photographs on medium-format black and white film without telephoto or zoom lenses. This important because he has an iconic way that he shoots and styles his pictures.

Nick takes these photos to capture the natural beauty of East Africa and show the animals "simply in the state of being," (Brandt)

He hopes to help people realize that the animals are in danger and their natural land and beauty should be preserved, and he wants to capture their beauty. He takes these pictures to show the animals in their natural habitats, like they should be.

"There is something profoundly iconic, mythological even, about the animals of East and southern Africa." (Brandt)
